Potty training began today and the clever little things are getting it! Lots of misses still but a good step forward. They've definitely found their voices which also makes me suspect that hearing is also coming on board. Turning into little dogs right before our eyes!

The NASCAR litter is two weeks old! The first two weeks with neonate puppies are always the most stressful as they are pretty fragile. So congrats to us for keeping everyone alive!
Only 3 more nights of ESN and ESI and we'll continue with the game bird theme - tonight is pigeon. We continue to do nails every other day and change collars as needed. All eyes are more or less open now and their hearing should come on line at the end of this week. It takes a few days after their eyes open for them to be able to see with any clarity, and even then they are pretty myopic. Still, nice to see them sorta looking back at you. We should also see them begin to play with each other and interact with their environment a bit more as they are more often up on all fours and more often walking unsteadily around the whelping box. And they will find their voice this week so we might hear the occasional yips. Hard to believe this this is the last week they will be in the whelping box as a few days after their third week birthday, we'll move them into a small pen downstairs. It's amazing to see how much they change in just a few hours. Most of the pups are up on 4 legs now, although still very shaky! But they definitely have more purpose in their movement. And it looks like we might have some jail breaks happening in the near future.
Tonight's ESI was a turkey baby caught by their momma and saved just for this very occasion. Today marks a big day for the NASCAR pups as their eyes are starting to open. As a result, pics are a bit limited and not the best as the room is dark and I'm not using the flash. You can see from the photos how much they have grown! Clearly, Micha is feeding them well though I sense she is getting a bit bored with the whole pit box life. It's cooler out which makes being in the box a little nicer for her with 9 warm puppies. Her stitches came out today as well so that is better for her.
Rather than clipping nails, we've moved to the dremel. The clipper was leaving them quite sharp and doing a number on Micha's belly. ESI continues with birds and tonight was a goose wing Another hit! I had left last night's quail wings in the pen with them for further enrichment but had to remove it as a few of them were trying to eat it! We continue to rotate toys in the pen and have also added some tiles with different textures for a change of footing. A couple of pups had some loose stools on the weekend but that is resolving with some probiotic. Not a lot new in the NASCAR litter but of course, I have cute pics. Tonight's ESI was grouse wings and we got a unanimous call for "more please"! We also started to dremel their nails. We had been clipping every other day bit they were still super sharp and doing a number on Mich'as belly. Hopefully, this helps.
There's not a lot of variety in the pics I'm posting! You must be getting tired of pics of puppies sleeping! Today's ESI was grass which was very popular. Tomorrow we move on to birds of various types. Will be interested to see their reactions. Bruce spent most of the day in the pit box while I ran errands so I don't have a bunch of pics from today. Tonight's ESI scent will be dirt so will be curious what they think of it. Pretty easy to see how much they've grown. And even though we did their nails yesterday, it looks like they are close to being ready to trim again. Come visit!
It was a quiet day for the racers. Eat, sleep, poop, look adorable pretty much takes up their whole day. Along with ENS, ESI, nail trimming and collar changing. They were a;; fond of coffee!
