The Roadsters got their first taste of solid food today. Raw chicken was the chef's selection. To say it was a hit was an understatement! I tried to video it for you but with 12 pups, 12 plates and only 4 sets of hands directing traffic, it didn't work out so well. Today's pen featured the adventure box again but also some new toys. we added a utility glove and all 3 different types of scent articles. I had a super cute pic of them picking up the leather scent article and chewing on the metal only to discover that the SD card wasn't in the camera. Argh!! You'll just have to take my word for it. The kuranda bed was back in but at full height so some of them had to work a bit to get on it. The balloons changed positions as did the mirror. We also added new footing - those plastic, snap together squares. The flowers on the side of the pen proved popular! The musical selection was opera. Some of you noticed it was country on the weekend. Bruce is home tomorrow so who knows what he'll pick. Safe to say it won't be screaming babies though :-) The weather has been awful here - cold and rainy so they haven't been outside for a while but it looks sunny for the weekend so we'll get them out then.

Today's pen set up saw the addition of a tunnel and their first Avidog Adventure Box! They did great! They also got to spend some hanging with us, Cajun, and the cats while we watched tv. What fun! Tomorrow, solid food!
And look at those babies using their potty box! We started the day by redecorating the pen again. We added a kuranda bed, a big scary black gorilla, a black plastic tube to crawl through (or over as a couple of them did), and various new toys with different textures. We put ceramic tiles in for a different texture, moved the balloons and hanging flowers, and added some other hanging toys across a corner of the pen. The kuranda bed was pretty popular because all 12 can sleep together on it :-) They've been so good with the potty box that we made then pen a bit bigger today. In the video below you can see one of them get up from a nap, trundle over for a pee, and then go back to the bed. So cool! We also changed their collars and you can see I had a little "helper" for that job. They had another session with the marrow bones - in the kitchen this time. Bonny will to in to feed them, usually standing but her attitude is pretty much I.Am.So.Done.With.This. The little buggers are using their teeth now and she's correct a few of them for inappropriate chomps. Happy 4 Week Birthday, Roadsters!! Time is flying by much too quickly!! Another fun day for the Roadsters with some new visitors. Thank you to Donna, Jessica, and Vlad for coming to socialize the babies! We changed the pen set up, as we do every day. We added balloons, a new texture to the pen, some new toys, a new bed, moved the hanging flowers and mobile etc. etc. And today was their first day of marrow bones. Huge hit by all! Watch the video - much happy chortling! And a pic showing how brilliant they are becoming at using the potty box! A pic showing how I start my day - lap full of love! I never realize how much the pups have grown until I see them all piled in the cat bed. There's not as much room in there anymore.
We introduced a cat cave today and that was popular with some of them who crawled right in and snuggled up. The pups have a busy day tomorrow with lots of visitors planned, plus their first taste of marrow bones. It will be interesting to see what they think of that! Potty box training is coming along really well! So cool to see them make a deliberate decision to go in the potty! I wasn't happy with the pen we had set up. It was hard to move around it and I think it was too large. So, when Bruce came home we rejigged it and it's much better. Tomorrow, we'll switch out some lower panels so Bon can get in and out. In other news, the pups have met the boys so that was fun for all. The cats have been around but now that they see they are little dogs and not chipmunks, their interest has waned. Everyone is settling in to their new digs. We even got out first poops and pees in the potty box - yeah! We haven't figured out a system to allow Bon to get in and out of the pen at will. The sides of the Xpen are too tall or our coolers are too small but she can't leap the side from one cooler to the other. For now, we're just letting her in and out. PITA!
The camera flash is gone again so pics might be a bit sparse until it's back from the shop. Another PITA! The Roadsters have new digs! Tomorrow, we'll be moving them from the whelping room upstairs to an x-pen in the living room. This will not only allow the pups to get more stimulation by getting to hear and see more, but will also a) prevent them from escaping and b) allow them to start their potty training. It's also better for Bon as she was pretty lonely and bored up there in the whelping room even though we spent a lot of time with her. I'll take pics after we move them. It's definitely time as they are almost out of the box and it sure is crowded! The pups are getting really active! I've shared the video below that I posted on Facebook for those of you who don't do social media. Holy smokes they'll be wild at 8 weeks! I can feel little teeth in their mouth now and some nice coat. It was another beautiful day so we took them outside again for some fresh air and smells. This looks like the last day we'll be able to get them outside this week as it will be rainy for the next few days. Happy Thanksgiving from the Roadsters! They aren't quite ready for a turkey dinner themselves but Bon had turkey for dinner so I guess, indirectly, they did too!
What a big difference in just 24 hours in terms of play, stamina, and coordination! Made the mistake of sitting in the whelping box to bottle feed one of the pups - now I know what it's like to be in the middle of a swarm of killer bees - omg! Adventure boxes are done (I think) and some fun stuff added to the barn. They had another picnic al fresco as well. The Roadsters had a big day today! First, we wished the Roadsters a very happy 3 week birthday! 3 weeks!!?? How can that be? The time is flying by much too quickly. To celebrate, the Roadsters got wormed today. Yum, yum! They found that stuff pretty tasty and sucked it right out of the syringe. Slurp :-) And because it was such a gorgeous day outside, they also had a brief picnic in the sun this afternoon. We didn't keep them out too long but it was pretty funny to see their noses going like fury as they hit the grass and leaves for the first time. Hope to get them out again later this week if it is warm and dry. They also had a few new visitors today which is always a hit with both them and Bonny, who never passes up an opportunity to show off her toys. In addition to the food, the new toys that appear in the box every day are a pretty good bonus. The pups have met Dice and Cajun outside of the box and had a good sniff. Bon still isn't too happy with the boys sticking their head over into the pen, but she's quite ok with us holding the pup to introduce it to the boys. Her babies, her rules. As for Bruce and I, we spent some time in the barn continuing to work on their adventure land. I'll take some pictures of that for you tomorrow and you can critique my adventure boxes. We also moved the love seat and wing chair out of the living room in anticipation of the Roadsters move to the main floor this week. And, of course, nails, laundry, nails, pen clean up, nails, supplementing, nails, pics, more laundry, nails... The pups are getting really cute now while still being a controllable force :-). They are much more puppy-like, less potato-like. Coat is coming in, they're starting to look up at the big-blurs that are people outside the box, and use their voices to express their desires. And they climb quite well as evidenced by the below pics. |
