Lots of visitors (and helpers) for the Road Litter today which meant lots of tired pups. Brilliant! 'Night all!

The puppies have started to play with each other and their toys - so cute! I'll try and get it on video for you but for now, enjoy the photos!
A nice relaxing day today. Took Bon on some big long walks today as she's pretty out of shape. Did some front work too which soothed both of our souls. Got over to the barn for a bit to work on their adventure box and some new additions to their play yard. Thank goodness we have that space for them - I can't imagine raising the 12 of them in just our living room!! I was also able to just spend some time with them all one on one - giving them kisses and snuggling. We want to do such a great job with them that we find ourselves from time to time focusing on the to do list versus just enjoying their awesomeness. Btw, future Road owners, I've decided they are all staying - sorry!
Another huge thank you to Catherine, her mom, and her sister for coming to not only visit with and socialize the Roadies, but for feeding and trimming all those sharp little nails.. Bruce was positively giddy :-) Sorry about the hickies :-)
And to Kerri and Addison for delivering the pups new play structure and for the most entertaining play session! And check out these amazing collars/leashes that the awesome Jilll Brown made for the babies! Ears are definitely opening. Neat! Of course, with the ears comes noise. This evening the entire liter joined together to serenade us in a group howl. Cute but loud! We changed everybody's collar today and added a few small dog/cat beds to the whelping box. They were very popular as you can see below. It's getting harder to convince Bon she needs to spend time with the pups. The girl is bored and is taking to stealing the pups toys and carrying them around to see if anyone is interested in a game of tug. Tonight's ESI scent was pigeon. Pretty popular, overall. Not the huge hit that the fresh goose wing was but overall, it rated pretty highly.
I think we are starting to get some ears. A few woke up when I greeted them this afternoon. Of course, Bon also came into the room with me so it isn't definitive. What is definitive is that their volume has INCREASED! My goodness, they make it known when they are unhappy. We've started to add more toys to the pen. They really like toys that they can burrow into, hide in, or get buried under. I think they'll like the tunnels when it's time to add them. The midwives - midhusbands? are having a good time. Bon enjoys her vacation time. :-) Wow! I can't believe these guys are two weeks old already! We saw a big change even from yesterday in their mobility. They're really getting around well. I can't even imagine what they are going to be like at 7 weeks - a force to be reckoned with for sure!
Bon is doing well - much more her usual Bonny self. Though she sure welcomes her naps away from the pups. Granny Hiscoke left on Friday and today Papa Martin came to stay for a bit. Should be a fun week! The pups had a photo shoot with some leaves today and Deb got some really cute shots. We also did their two-week old head shots which will be up on the Flicker site. Deb goes to Italy for two weeks - she'll see a huge change in the pups when she's back! Even though the pups got to smell leaves, today, we added cherry wood to the ESI rotation tonight. Two more days for ESI to go! It was a rainy, cool fall day in Ottawa but the Road Litter had a great time meeting lots of new people. Thanks very much for everyone who came to see the pups today - it was great for them! A special thanks to Erin, Catherine and Deb for their bottle feeding and nail trimming expertise! Come back any time :-) And what a lovely way to spend an afternoon - drinking a glass of wine and watching pups.
Tonight's ESI scent was a fresh Canada goose wing. OMG! Did that get a positive response across the board? I thought some of them were going to try and crawl inside it! Much snuffling, burying of heads, and licking was going on. Very cool! Bon got her staples out today so she's a little more comfortable. This was also the day were we saw her want to spend some time outside of the box for a bit. She also nursed them sitting up for the first time. The pups are getting more mobile and better at scaling toys. I'll try and capture some video of them "walking" for you tomorrow. Today's ESI scent was cloves. Not popular!! Well, one puppy liked it....
The pups are getting more and more active - starting to get their legs under them for a step or two, before toppling over! So cute! The toys are getting popular. They love to climb over them, burrow into them, occasionally poop on them :-) |
