The NASCAR litter got off to an early start on the weekend with lots of free play and a trip outside all before breakfast, The big news is that we now seem to have a follow and we did the first of their adventure walks. Also lots of fun with Mrs Duck and a good ol' time was had with Bruce's croc. Bring on the weekend!

A rainy cool morning was definitely made brighter by a delightful visit with John, Karen, Emily and, of course, KT. (And hands down the winner of the "longest distance traveled to visit puppies award!).
The pen had more wobbly stuff in it which apparently also make excellent beds! Luckily, the day warmed up and we were able to get the pups outside on the patio late this afternoon for a romp in the bottle pool. This tuckered them out enough for a car ride and visit to the Peavey Mart (aka TSC). Have learned from experience that this is not to be attempted unless they are tired! After a nice buffet dinner, we have tired babies. 'Night all! It's official - I am Out of Office until after the pups go home! A good thing as the next few weeks are going to be busy, busy, busy . Even cleaning the pen every morning takes at least 90 minutes so it will nice to not have the added pressure of "work" on top of it. And speaking of the next few weeks, Happy 5th week birthday NASCAR pups!! How is that even possible that they will be going home in 3.5 weeks? And how will everything possible get done. That's it, I guess they all just have to stay ;-) More new things went into their pen, including a wobble board. Since it was so lovely, we had a romp outside this morning and again after eating lunch outside. A car ride and a trip to the barn to just run around completed our day. We put the adventure box back in but this time added a sound mat underneath - when the pups step on various spots on the mat, it makes noises. This was perhaps a mistake since throughout the day, all I heard was elephants trumpeting and tigers roaring. The pups seemed to enjoy it. Instead of the kuranda bed, we put in a bid dog bed and of course, lots of fun toys and textures. We enjoyed some visitors this morning and it warmed up enough to get them outside and then go for a car ride. And, of course, lots of general rampaging. It was a very cool and windy day in Ottawa but it warmed up enough to to get the pups outside today. We'll dome some free play tonight in a different room as well.
The pups enjoyed opera as today's music selection and we added the teeter back into the pen. We put the little tunnel in,, which some enjoyed crawling on and others seemed to enjoy sleeping on. I realized that all my pics are mostly of them sleeping but they are hard to catch in motion! Today, as always, started out with cleaning and changing the pen, adding the kuranda bed back in, We also added Pluto (who makes an excellent sleeping companion) and more toys with different textures, We moved the hanging toys and added in a soft bosu which seemed to be pretty fun. The kuranda is at it's normal height which gives options for sleeping on, or under, the bed depending on one's preference. The pups had another car ride and their first field trip - this time they took a tour of Canadian Tire. Best of all, they had a terrific visit with Bryer and Ella who delighted the pups with their gift of fresh duck wings! Awesome. But that didn't get the NASCAR litter down. We expanded the pen a little bit more today and added one of their adventure boxes which proved very popular. We added a rolling tunnel thing and a piano. Apparently, they all have musical ability. We had an alfresco lunch today that had to be cut short from the rain but still a good experience to get them out in damp weather. Thanks to the crafting skills of some visitors we have new collars. Their coat is growing so this will help us to identify them at a distance. We "stacked" them on the grooming table for the first time an, of course, did nails. Tomorrow, we start barn set up in prep for the start of their visits at the end of the next week. Busy day! Today's pen setup featured some comfy beds, a cato tipping plank, lots of hanging toys as always and an inflatable cylinder that rattled. They had lots of free play, romping ont he patio before the rain and another car ride. Between that, it was eat, sleep, play and poop. So much poop now that they are on solid food but they are doing well with the potty boxes. Bring on the weekend! A big day for the NASCAR litter! They had their first car ride. Not far, just around the block. but it's an important start.
And we started them on solid food. They were gaining, but not to the extent that I would have liked. So, on to solid food which they loved and weight gains have taken a dramatic rise, as you can see. All that and 2 ventures outside and we have zonked puppies....for now! Today's pen set up had a black plastic "tunnel" (which has already been crawled through and apparently makes a good spot for a nap), a kuranda bed (at a low height though it didn't need to be in hindsight), their first wobble board, a different surface (ceramic tile) and lots of various toys. Time is going by much too quickly!! Woke up to a rainy morning and it was looking like the pups couldn't get outside today. Pups at this age can handle cold, but they get chilled easily when they get really wet. We'll be able to get them out in the rain when they're a little older. Luckily, it cleared up this afternoon and we had another romp - this time on the driveway so they got to experience gravel. Didn't video that but I have a short video from last night. They have been doing so well with their potty training that we expanded the pen a bit. If that goes well, we'll continue to expand it later this week. |
